HOW can a company claim to be committed to environmental stewardship when a large part of their business consists of replacing trees and grass with steel and concrete?
We understand the tension at play here. We grapple with it virtually every day at Halls. We learn lessons from some companies, and we set the trend for others.
If you're in property development, the reality is that the built environment will inevitably intrude into the natural environment. But we can, and do, act responsibly in terms of minimising this footprint.
Preserving and maintaining wetlands. Reducing our carbon footprint through best practice in design. Taking exceptional care of the ecology of a site before and during development. Involving every single employee at Halls in an annual Environmental Day
where we, for example, clear alien vegetation, litter and snares on
our land and along our waterways, plant indigenous trees,
raise awareness and understanding of snakes and raptors,
and install bat houses.
Take a stroll through the mature tree-lined avenues of Mataffin
Village and you will see that the founders of the Halls family
business knew something about nurturing the environment for
future generations. This commitment remains part of our DNA.
Today. And tomorrow, too.
